Ian Garry disapproves of Carlos Prates' rise in the welterweight rankings and makes a bold promise in the UFC.

One of the highlights of UFC Qatar, an event that takes place this Saturday (22), Ian Garry is not at all happy with the organization's latest ranking update, released last Tuesday (18). In it, the welterweight category (up to 77,1 kg) suffered numerous changes at the top. As he saw Carlos Prates enter the top-5, the Irishman expressed his discontent.

On the event's 'media day', Garry disapproved of the fact that a fighter he defeated with authority had moved ahead of him in the ranking of the competitive division. With the important victory over Leon Edwards , former champion of the category, last Saturday (15), Prates went from ninth place to fifth, one above the Irishman.

Despite the annoyance with the change, 'The Future' stated that, next Tuesday (25), everything will return to normal. Overflowing with confidence, Garry guaranteed that he will surpass the competitors in the weight class, as he promised to put on a show against Belal Muhammad , former champion, and knock him out.

“I think that’s ridiculous. I understand, but when two men fight and I beat the guy, he should be below me. But it’s okay. The truth is, this weekend, Prates and Morales will be irrelevant, because I will be number one in the world and next in line for the title. I’m going straight for the belt. When I knock out Belal, I will make all the welterweight fighters irrelevant. I will solidify myself as the number one contender,” said the top welterweight.

Garry has the advantage against Prates.

In the fight held in April, Ian Garry defeated Carlos Prates by unanimous decision. On that occasion, the Irishman inflicted the Brazilian's first defeat in the UFC.

In the first three rounds, 'The Future' dominated the striker in all areas. In the final stretch, the member of the 'Fighting Nerds' team grew stronger and almost knocked out the European in the fifth and final round. As the fight was good and competitive, the athletes agreed to face each other again in the future.
