Carlos Prates reveals conversation with Leon Edwards during fight at UFC 322: 'He doesn't have a strong mind'

Carlos Prates showed at UFC 322, held last Saturday (15), that he is the type of fighter capable of mentally unsettling his opponents even before connecting the final blow. On the main card, the Fighting Nerds smoker shared the octagon with Leon Edwards and knocked out the former champion in the second round; however, according to him, the rival's mind was already completely defeated.

In an interview with UFC Brazil, Prates pointed out that his victory began to take shape in the first round, when he took advantage of clinch moments to destabilize Leon Edwards , who, according to the smoker, is mentally weak.

“Since he’s not a strong, shielded mind, when he grabbed me I said, ‘Dude, stop grabbing, let’s fight, let’s fight, let’s fight,’” explained Carlos Prates.

After landing a left hook that knocked Leon Edwards down , Carlos Prates delivered another blow to his fallen opponent before the referee stopped the fight. According to the smoker, this second blow was crucial in securing the victory, even though he doesn't like to hit opponents after they're down.

“I don’t really like hitting a guy like that when he falls, but he fell while still conscious, in guard. So I thought, ‘I’m going to have to finish him.’ But that’s it, it happens. I hope he’s okay,” said Carlos Prates.
