UFC sensation Carlos Prates is brimming with confidence. And no wonder. Last Saturday (15), in New York (USA), the Brazilian achieved the biggest victory of his career by brutally knocking out Leon Edwards , former welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg), in the second round. With this feat, the athlete projected his next step in the octagon and set his sights on Islam Makhachev , the new champion of the category.

Having impressed in action and racked up knockouts, Prates believes he can score another against the feared Russian, who lost for the first and only time way back in 2015. However, despite the statistics, the Brazilian is not intimidated and asserts that if he lands a solid blow on Makhachev, he will succumb to his power.

And the athlete's position is understandable. It's worth highlighting that Prates fought seven times in the UFC, winning six, all by knockout, and earning performance bonuses.

“I’m very good at knocking out fighters for the first time in the UFC. When I fought Jingliang, everyone said he had never lost by knockout, but I went there and knocked him out. Then I fought Neal and everyone said he had never been knocked out. I went and knocked him out. Against Edwards it was the same thing. I think I can knock out the champion. I want to work hard and come back much better than today,” said the fighter at the post-UFC 322 press conference.
