The fight began cautiously, with the athletes exchanging kicks. At one point, Edwards posed a threat with a cross. The experienced Englishman attempted a takedown, but Prates defended and exchanged blows with Edwards against the cage. Returning to striking, the Brazilian showed aggression and pursued his opponent, landing a good straight punch. In response, Edwards took his opponent down, took his back, and landed punches to his face. Calmly, the former champion again took Prates down and nearly submitted him with a rear-naked choke.

In the second round, Prates, who had been defeated in the first, went on the attack and landed low kicks. Sharper, the Brazilian also landed punches on the former champion. Confident, the athlete finished the fight by landing a straight right hand squarely on Edwards' face, who even went up from the ground with the impact of the blow.
