Even though he is officially retired, Jon Jones spoke again about Tom Aspinall in a video published last Wednesday (5). After the bizarre outcome of the main fight of UFC 321, in which the Englishman could not continue with Ciryl Gane after taking an eye poke in the first round, Bones came to the public to briefly analyze the technical aspects that most attract his attention in the heavyweight champion's game (up to 120,2 kg).

Speaking about the subject on the 'No Scripts' podcast , the former light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) and heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) champion highlighted that he doesn't see much technical variety in Aspinall's approach inside the octagon, and also questioned the Englishman's grappling skills.
“Tom is a great athlete, but I think he only knows how to do one thing. I believe his wrestling and jiu-jitsu are incredibly overrated. He has a beautiful jab-straight… and that’s it. He couldn’t land a punch on Ciryl Gane at all. That was my impression. I think Gane was just starting to warm up. He was touching him. He was very comfortable,” Bones stated.

“I believe [Tom's] wrestling and jiu jitsu is incredibly overrated. I got to learn a lot about his patterns in his last fight. Beautiful 1-2, but that's really about it. He couldn't touch Ciryl Gane .”

The duel between Jones and Aspinall was negotiated for a long time by the UFC. Then heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg), Jones was supposed to unify the title against the Englishman, who held the interim belt at the time. However, the fight never materialized even after months of talks, so the American opted to officially retire in June of this year. The Briton was promoted to the undisputed champion.
