To take the title, Ronda defeated some of the biggest names in the sport in the United States, such as Olympic swimming medalist Missy Franklin, sprinter Jackie Joyner-Kersee, basketball player Diana Taurasi and, in the grand final, the number one tennis player of the world Serena Williams.
In addition to Ronda and the names she surpassed to win, other great athletes in North American sports were also part of the dispute, such as: tennis player Martina Navratilova, football player Abby Wambach, former football player Michele Akers, Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci and Brazilian Marta, the only Brazilian representative in the competition.
This isn't the first time ESPN has awarded a big prize to Ronda Rousey. At the ESPYs, an annual award given by the broadcaster, Ronda was awarded “Best Female Athlete” and, in 2015, received the award for “Best Fighter”, beating names such as boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Ronda Rousey returns to the octagon on November 14th, in Australia. On the date, the blonde puts her belt on the line against the undefeated challenger Holly holm. The duel will be the main fight of UFC 193, an event that will take place in a football stadium with a capacity for more than 70 thousand fans in the city of Melbourne.
