Cormier cites remorse over Malhadinho talk and expresses annoyance over Aspinall leak

Commentator admits he expressed himself incorrectly and sends a message to the heavyweight champion

Protagonist of controversial episode during promotional week of UFC 321, Daniel Cormier came out again to explain his version after having the video leaked by Tom aspinall, in which he ends up criticizing Jailton Malhadinho, during a private conversation. Despite all the repercussions, the Brazilian did not comment on what he saw.

In addition to reinforcing his apology to Malhadinho, Cormier mocked Aspinall's actions by thanking the athlete for posting the video on his official YouTube account.

“Speaking of Jailton Almeida: Thank you so much for that YouTube video with Tom aspinall"He and I were talking, the mic was on, and I was talking to Tom about the heavyweight division. I was literally trying to tell him, 'You could be on the verge of something tremendously special right now.' In that statement, I was saying, 'Jailton is going to fight you. It's not that dangerous of a fight,' and I could have done a better job of telling Tom that," Cormier said on his podcast. 'Good Guy/Bad Guy'.

Continuing his speech, DC stated that he didn't approve of the action and expressed his disapproval of the heavyweight champion. When trying to explain his point of view, the commentator revealed that he believed the footage and microphones belonged to the UFC team.

"Now, to be honest, I was a little upset that Tom would publicize this. When you lean in close to someone and speak softly, that's a private conversation that should stay between you and the athlete. I thought it was Embedded, and I know Embedded would never do something like that."

Finally, the veteran expressed regret and praised Malhadinho.

“Whether you’re joking or being sincere, Jailton Almeida deserves respect, and I respect him. I was upset because he's been really nice to me since he joined the UFC, and I think Jailton Almeida He's a great guy. I think he needs to improve his game, because his grappling is excellent, but he doesn't do damage," he concluded.
