In a duel valid for the bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg), at UFC 321, held this Saturday (25), in Abu Dhabi, Khabib's younger cousin was even startled by a knee strike, but gave no space to Mario Bautista and won by unanimous decision of the judges.
With the victory, Umar extended his record to 19 wins and only one loss, precisely in a title fight against Merab Dvalishvili . Furthermore, the young Dagestani fighter maintained his third position in the bantamweight rankings (up to 61,2 kg) and broke Mario Bautista 's eight-fight winning streak.
Umar Nurmagomedov dominates Mario Bautista at UFC 321
Early on, Mario attempted a medium kick, but Umar wasted no time, countering the blow and taking the American down. Just when it seemed the Russian would begin his dominance, Bautista attempted a leg lock, forcing Nurmagomedov to struggle to escape. The fighters then exchanged ground positions, with Umar seeking control and Mario attempting submissions from behind. In the final stretch, the American eventually gave up his back, and Umar finished the round trying to finish the fight.
In the second round, Mario came back more aggressive. After a takedown attempt from Umar, he landed a knee that sent the Russian to the ground. However, Umar got up as if nothing had happened, applied another takedown, and in less than 30 seconds, he was on Bautista's back, attempting a submission. Bautista managed to get up and mount a comeback, but it wasn't long before Umar took him to the ground again and regained control.
In the third round, Bautista knew he needed to finish and came back strong. Umar, in turn, maintained his pace, forcing his opponent to trade blows in the center of the octagon. Halfway through the round, the Russian landed another takedown and maintained his dominance until the end.
