Demetrious Johnson established himself increasingly as the dominant champion of the UFC flyweight division last Saturday (5), when he defeated John Dodson to defend his title for the seventh time. If inside the octagon the situation is a success, outside it is very different. UFC 191 had the lowest revenue of any pay-per-view in more than a decade in Ultimate.

The attraction, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas (USA), earned US$ 1,3 million at the box office. The last numbered event that registered less than that was the distant UFC 49, held in August 2004. Headlined by the third confrontation between Randy Couture and Vitor belfort, the show grossed US$1,2 million at the box office.

In terms of comparison, the last event held at the gym was UFC 189, in July, which had Conor McGregor against Chad Mendes in the main combat. At the time, US$7,2 million was raised, with an audience of 16 thousand people – compared to 10 thousand at UFC 191.

Furthermore, Johnson recently recorded the worst ever sales of pay-per-view in the United States in more than nine years, with 115 thousand packages sold at UFC 174, in June of last year. In 2015, the fighter also has the worst record, with 125 thousand sales at UFC 186.
