After returning to the Octagon to train for TUF 19 alongside Frankie Edgar and be defeated in devastating fashion, the former two-division champion B.J. Penn said goodbye to MMA again in July last year. “I heard Dana White talking about the UFC in Hawaii, he said it was on the agenda and I just needed to clear some obstacles. O B.J. Penn said if the UFC came to Hawaii, he would come out of retirement for one last fight. You may end up having your wish granted and seeing the legend back in action”, said the also Hawaiian Max Holloway, during a chat with fans via the “Periscope” app.
In Holloway's opinion, however, Penn should not return to the featherweight division, as he did against Edgar, but at lightweight. “I think he needs to fight in his real category, the 70 kg category. Just because he can make weight doesn't mean he should. Give BJ one last fight and I believe it could be great, that’s what I think,” he concluded.
At 36, B.J. Penn He ended his career with a professional record of 16 wins, 10 losses and two draws. One of the only two athletes in the history of Ultimate to hold belts in two different categories, lightweight and welterweight, BJ has only had two fights in the last four years and has a record of three defeats and one draw in his last four fights.
