Cormier attacks Malhadinho in a conversation leaked by Aspinall's team: 'He doesn't know how to fight'

Official Ultimate commentator downplays the threat posed by heavyweight athletes to the reign of the current champion

Official UFC commentator and accustomed to publicly giving his opinion on matters related to the organization's fighters, Daniel Cormier shows that, behind the scenes, his thinking may be different from what he expresses online. Despite praising and joking about Jailton Malhadinho when far or near, the American ended up having a leaked conversation with Tom aspinall, where he criticizes the Brazilian's abilities.

During recordings for UFC 321Aspinall's team was filming a conversation between the former double champion and the Englishman and ended up recording a moment when Cormier, whispering, downplayed the talent of the heavyweight division fighters (up to 120,2 kg). Without hesitation, the video was publicly released on the channel of YouTube of the new star.

"The fights in this division, the winning streaks you can put together are insane. You can change your life. Jailton (Malhadinho) doesn't know how to fight. You're about to do something insane, keep working hard," Cormier whispered in conversation with Aspinall.

Still following the conversation, even though he realized he was being recorded, Cormier compared it to a moment in his career when he was chosen to face Volkan oezdemir. Laughing, the veteran mocked his former rival.

“Things like this don’t happen often. It was like when I was cast to fight against Volkan oezdemir, I defended the belt against Volkan. Did I win the lottery, son? They were like, 'We think you're going to have to face Volkan,' and I was like, 'Sure, I'll definitely take that,'" he concluded.
