Determined to end any kind of rivalry with Alex Poatán, Dricus du Plessis returned to expressing himself positively when talking about the Brazilian. This time, the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) was asked about his posture Khamzat Shimaev, in which he appears challenging the São Paulo native to a duel and stating that he is willing to move up to the heavyweight category (up to 120,2 kg) to fight.
Despite having lost to 'Lobo' in his last appearance, Dricus did not hesitate to eliminate the new champion's chances of neutralizing Poatan's power and attacks in a possible confrontation in the octagon.

“Khamzat always makes unusual challenges. There’s no chance Khamzat will beat Poatan. Poatan is one of the biggest in combat sports right now. Poatan looked so big against Magomed Ankalayev. This is all hype, I don't think there's a realistic chance of this fight happening anytime soon," Du Plessis said in an interview with Fight Forecast.

So far, Dana White has not commented on Chimaev's desire to face Poatan. Aware of the statements, the Brazilian has already spoken out and assured that he does not intend to face his rival in his current weight class. The sports legend currently plans to face Jon Jones at UFC Casa Branca and awaits the American's position on the challenge.
Current middleweight champion Chimaev awaits the announcement of his first title defense. In his last fight, the athlete dominated Du Plessis for five rounds, preventing his opponent from making a third title defense.
