The possible superfight between Alex Poatán e Jon Jones excites the public and is seen as a commercial asset for the UFC, but it can have serious side effects for Tom aspinall. The analysis is Chael Sonnen, former fighter and current commentator, who pointed to the British fighter as the main loser if the duel between the Brazilian and the American were to go ahead.
On his YouTube channel, Sonnen stated that the most logical sporting match for Jones would be a confrontation with Aspinall, the current linear heavyweight champion.

“If you’re going to put this fight together (Poatan vs. Jones), what do you do with Tom? If Jon Jones to return, the right thing would be Jon Jones x Tom aspinall”, assessed the American.
The former fighter also highlighted that Poatan, even fighting in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg), has already reached a similar weight to Jones in preparation, which, according to him, would defeat Dana White's only argument against the duel: the physical difference between the two.
Political and sports scenario
Chael Sonnen, however, warns that this choice could 'bury' the moment of Tom aspinall, which is still seeking to consolidate its status as linear champion and the organization's recognition.
Jon Jones, who has announced and denied his retirement at various times, remains with an uncertain future. Meanwhile, the UFC considers the fight against Aspinall a sporting priority, but sees Poatan vs. Jones as a potential commercial success.
The Brazilian, however, recently revealed that he has a broken foot, which should delay any immediate plans to move up a weight class.
