Charles of the Bronx only has reasons to smile after his major victory at UFC Rio, held last Saturday (11). The Brazilian dominated Mateusz gamrot and won by completion in the second round. In addition to winning the 'Performance of the Night' bonus, the former champion gained a position in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) rankings.

Before the triumph over the Pole, Charles occupied 4th place in the ranking, behind Islam makhachev, Arman Tsarukyan e Max Holloway, in addition to the champion Ilia Topuria. With the update released this Tuesday (14), the São Paulo native surpassed Holloway and is now in 3rd place in the category.

Despite having been surpassed, Max Holloway can regain his position if he accepts and wins Charles' challenge. Still in the UFC Rio octagon, the Brazilian challenged the Hawaiian to a fight for the 'BMF' belt, and Holloway responded positively during a live broadcast, paving the way for a potentially explosive confrontation.

Charles of the Bronx could rise even higher in the rankings

Even though it is already in the top 3, Charles of the Bronx may gain another position soon. This is because Islam makhachev, currently number 1 in the rankings, decided to move up a category to try for the double championship. So, when the Russian faces Jack Della Maddalena No. UFC 322, he will be removed from the lightweight rankings and transferred to the welterweight rankings (up to 77 kg), regardless of the fight's outcome.
