Dariush fears what Chimaev would do to Poatan in a potential fight and offers the Brazilian a better option

Veteran believes light heavyweight champion should focus on super fights and big paydays to avoid meeting with Emirati

Light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) again, Alex Poatán has returned to everyone's sights and this time, the Brazilian is attracting attention Khamzat ShimaevDetermined to seek the opportunity for a confrontation, the Emirati has already declared that he is willing to fight in the heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg) so that he can measure his strength against the São Paulo native.

Even with Poatan expressing no interest in a potential duel, Beneil Dariush stepped forward and offered a better option to the light heavyweight champion, after predicting an advantage and violent dominance on the part of Chimaev.

“For Poatan, I would rather watch him in a big fight, like the Jon Jones or something like that. I feel like at 38, maybe considering retiring, I don't want to see him get murdered by Khamzat Shimaev, to be honest. I really don't. I want to see Poatan ride off into the sunset, with big fights, big paydays, that's how I'd like to see Poatan end his career," Dariush told Helen Yee.

Continuing with his speech, the veteran highlighted the differences between Chimaev and Magomed Ankalayev and praised the great talent displayed by the Emirati.

"Khamzat's wrestling style is very different from Ankalaev's. Ankalaev seems to have more of a Greco-Roman, hand-to-hand style. Ankalaev doesn't commit as much, Khamzat does. He listens to his coaches and is open to taking his back. Don't get me wrong, Ankalaev has good wrestling, but not as much as Khamzat," he concluded.

Despite this scenario, Poatan has already stated after his victory over Ankalaev that he has no interest in facing Chimaev. The Brazilian's intention is to move up to heavyweight to fight superfights, preferably against Jon Jones at UFC Casa Branca.
