Current heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) and in full preparation to defend the category title against Cyryl Gane, Tom aspinall is constantly compared to older representatives of the most elite division of combat sports. Amid so many dominant and high-level figures, the Englishman was categorical in speculating about a confrontation with Daniel Cormier, who reigned in the category between 2018 and 2019 and retired in 2020.

The fighter addressed the issue in a video posted to his YouTube channel. When discussing his technical fit with Cormier, he acknowledged that his fighting style combined with the American's physique would likely pose difficulties. However, he stated that he believed he had what it took to win the hypothetical matchup.
"I say this every time I see DC. I think he's a nightmare for me. He's short. He's in shape. He keeps coming at you. He would have been a very, very tough job for me. But I believe I have the power to knock anyone out," he said.

At 32, Tom aspinall was promoted to linear champion after Jon Jones officially announce retirement. He captured the interim title by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich in the first round and then defended the provisional belt in less than a minute by winning Curtis blaydes at UFC 304. This was the last performance of the British fighter, who intends to start a new era in the division.

At 46, Daniel Cormier works as one of the main commentators for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He debuted in MMA in 2009 after building a solid career in wrestling, including two Olympic appearances, in 2004 and 2008. He became the king of the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg) after Jon Jones having problems with the law and drug tests. At 39 years old, DC became a double champion by knocking out Stipe Miocic in the first round in July 2018. After hanging up his gloves, he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame's 2022 class.
