Charles of the Bronx face Mateusz gamrot by lightweight (up to 70,3 kg) this Saturday (11), in Rio de Janeiro, but, before entering into action, he gave his opinion on the current moment of the UFC. In an interview with 'TNT Sports', the Brazilian surprised by electing Merab Dvalishvili as the best fighter in the organization.
Charles' choice is unusual because, generally, the MMA community points to athletes with star status as Ilia Topuria e Islam makhachev for such a position. Being Brazilian, Do Bronx could have even mentioned Alex PoatánHowever, the former company champion ignored such forces and asserted that Merab should be the number one fighter in the pound-for-pound rankings. And the veteran's choice is valid, given that the Georgian, bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg), defended his title for the third time and has a 14-fight winning streak.
“A guy who’s been doing a great job and who I really enjoy watching is Merab,” said the former UFC champion.
Weight-by-weight ranking
Despite the praise and recognition of Charles of the Bronx, Merab Dvalishvili is ranked third in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings. A standout in the world's largest MMA organization, 'The Machine' is only surpassed by Ilia Topuria e Islam makhachev, first and second place in the select classification table, respectively.
