Charles do Bronx recalls his last fight in Brazil and celebrates his change in status in the UFC

Charles do Bronx is back. Just like in 2020, the athlete headlines another UFC event in Brazil, this Saturday (11), in Rio de Janeiro, and is more motivated than ever to win. And, despite the focus on Mateusz Gamrot , Charles, when comparing his current commitment in national territory with the last one, highlighted a striking difference.

In an interview with UFC Brazil, Charles didn't forget the fight he held in Brasília against Kevin Lee , and he cherished it because everything changed between 2020 and 2025. At the time, the event headlined by the athlete had no audience because it was held during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, Do Bronx aimed to face the big names in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) to establish himself among the elite and gain more popularity. With his victory over Lee, the Brazilian gained momentum, continued winning, and became champion in 2021.

Today, the veteran is not a UFC champion, but he is one of the most respected fighters in MMA. So much so that Do Bronx described this current moment as special.

"It's been a long time since I felt such butterflies in my stomach. After so long, I'm back fighting in Brazil. The last time was during the pandemic, and there were no fans. Now, being able to return, in this phase of hype, with people stopping their daily activities to watch my fight, is motivating me well. I'm fine, happy, and focused. The big difference with this fight is the hype I have now. Five years ago, I wasn't in this gigantic hype. At that time, I was going to have my first main event, against a really tough guy, during the pandemic. Now, returning to the main event, at this moment, will definitely give me an extra boost," said the athlete.

In the UFC since 2010, 35-year-old Charles do Bronx has become the company's all-time leading finisher (16 times) and the fighter with the most finishes by stoppage (20 times). The Brazilian also holds the record for bonuses in the organization (20). The São Paulo native is a former lightweight champion and currently holds the fourth spot in the rankings.
