Change? Charles do Bronx announces new nickname on the eve of UFC Rio: 'There's only room for one'

One of the most popular names in MMA today, Charles of the Bronx has been reaping the rewards of his labor inside the world's most famous octagon. Thus, the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) has prepared a surprise for the fans who will watch him face off against Mateusz gamrot in the main fight of UFC Rio next Saturday (11). Known by his traditional nickname since his debut in the Ultimate in 2010, the Brazilian will have a new nickname for his next fight: the Predator.

The announcement was made by the athlete himself in a post on his official Instagram account last Tuesday (7). The change is part of the promotion for the film 'Predator: Savage Lands', produced by '20th Century Studios' and whose premiere is scheduled for November 6th and is part of one of the most famous franchises in cinema.

"In the hunt for the strongest, there's only room for one Predator. That's why, from now on, it's Charles Predator here and in the octagon. A fighter who, like me, faces any challenge head-on, always prepared for whatever comes. But this time, the mission is to confront the greatest of enemies and restore the respect of a people," the fighter said in the post description.

It's unclear whether the change will take effect during Leão Embaçado's presentation at this weekend's event or whether it will remain on social media. In any case, the Brazilian isn't the first athlete to have such an idea. More recently, Ilia Topuria He even publicly announced his desire to change his nickname from 'El Matador' to 'The Legend.' The Georgian/Spanish changed his mind after receiving negative feedback from sports fans.
