Last Saturday (4), in Las Vegas (USA), Alex Poatan shocked the world once again. The Brazilian knocked out Magomed Ankalaev in just over a minute of fighting in the rematch and became UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) for the second time. After the duel, Dana White praised the renowned striker, but, despite the excitement, preached caution regarding his size in MMA.
At the post-UFC 320 press conference, Dana, when asked by a journalist if Poatan is part of the sport's Mount Rushmore, meaning he has a place among the best fighters in the sport's history, remained mysterious. The official didn't confirm the Brazilian's presence in the select group, but emphasized that he is one of the standouts in MMA today.
"When you start looking at some of the guys out there now, you start looking at Makhachev, Poatan, Merab. These guys are doing some really badass stuff right now," said the UFC president.
Poatan on the rise
In the same press conference, Dana White praised Alex Poatan after his knockout of Magomed Ankalaev . The UFC president stated that it's a dream to have the Brazilian, such a skilled and professional athlete, in his organization.
Poatan's main victories
In the UFC since 2021, Alex Poatan has had a meteoric rise in MMA, shining in the octagon. The Brazilian was champion in the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions, defeating big names in the sport such as Israel Adesanya , Jamahal Hill , Jan Błachowicz, Jiri Prochazka (twice), Khalil Rountree Jr., Magomed Ankalaev , and Sean Strickland.
