Charles do Bronx relies on patience to beat Gamrot and break his rival's taboo at UFC Rio

The former lightweight champion is looking for his first submission over Mateusz Gamrot, who has never been submitted or knocked out in his career.

Charles of the Bronx will face a big challenge in the main fight of UFC Rio, scheduled for next Saturday (11). The Brazilian, record holder for submissions in the history of Ultimate, will face forces with Mateusz gamrot, who has never been submitted or knocked out in his career. Although his rival's record is similar to his own, the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) assures that he doesn't think much about it.

During the UFC Rio media day press conference, Charles expressed confidence and stated that he intends to fight calmly, taking advantage of the five rounds to seek victory. Known for his refined jiu-jitsu, the black belt emphasized that his style is based on exploiting openings and assured that he is prepared for any situation—including his opponent's strategy of trying to take the fight to the ground.

"Actually, I wasn't even thinking about it. I'm coming into this fight in no rush. I have five rounds to win. My jiu-jitsu is a jiu-jitsu of openings, and if I get one, I'll be able to take it," he said. Charles of the Bronx.

The Brazilian also reinforced that he is a complete MMA fighter and believes in the possibility of achieving the first submission over Gamrot.

"We won't just do jiu-jitsu. I'm a complete MMA fighter, and he'll try to take me to the ground the whole time. But I'm ready for that, and the openings will appear. We'll be able to make it happen and, who knows, maybe get the first submission on him," concluded the former champion.

Besides Charles of the Bronx, UFC Rio will feature several Brazilians on the card. Deiveson Figueiredo faces Montel Jackson in the co-main event, while Vincent Luque e Walter Walker come into action on the main card, among other athletes who will defend the green and yellow flag.
