Poatan responds to Tom Aspinall's accusation of favoritism in the UFC: 'I can't understand it'

The former UFC champion stressed that he had a lot of merit to reach a level of success in MMA coming from a different sport.

Alex Poatán is focused on the rematch against Magomed Ankalayev, scheduled for this Saturday (4), in Las Vegas (USA), but remains attentive to what happens in MMA and, mainly, to what is said about him. So much so that the Brazilian did not let it go and tried to respond to a dig from Tom aspinall.

Recently, the heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) stated that the renowned striker received special treatment from the company, namely, fights tailored to his style. Upon learning of the Englishman's provocation, Poatan vehemently denied any help from the organization. Finding Aspinall's statement strange, the athlete emphasized that he had considerable merit in achieving such success in MMA coming from a completely different sport.

“We’re talking about the biggest organization. I came from kickboxing, with no experience in grappling or MMA, and look what I’ve done. We’re talking about the highest level. So, if you put the worst UFC fighter to fight me in my weight class, that would be a disadvantage for me. So, I can’t understand it,” said the Brazilian at the UFC media day. UFC 320.

Poatan's main victories

In the UFC since 2021, the renowned striker has had a meteoric rise in MMA, shining in the octagon. The Brazilian was a middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg), light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg), and defeated big names in the sport such as Israel adesanya, Jamahal hill, Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka (twice), Khalil rountree Jr. and Sean Strickland.
