Close to the title, Ian Machado Garry faces former champion at UFC Qatar in November

The Irishman will face his biggest challenge yet against former champion Belal Muhammad on November 22 in the co-main event of UFC Qatar in Doha.

Ian Machado Garry will have another great opportunity towards the welterweight belt (up to 77kg). The Irishman, who sharpens his game at Chute Boxe Diego Lima, was confirmed as the protagonist of the co-main fight of UFC Qatar, against the former champion of the category, Belal Muhammad |, on November 22, in Doha. The announcement was made this Tuesday (1) by the organization's president, Dana White.

Ian Gary represents the division's new generation. The 28-year-old Irishman arrives riding a nine-fight winning streak in his ten appearances in the company's Octagon. The Irishman, ranked sixth, has only lost to Shavkat Rakhmonov by points.

In his last fight, he won Carlos Prates by decision in UFC Kansas City, which was the main event of the night. Despite being pressured at times, Garry demonstrated quality and technical mastery throughout the rounds.

Belal Muhammad tries to get back on the path to the belt

Division veteran, former champion and number one ranked, Belal Muhammad | comes into the fight under pressure. He lost the welterweight title in his last appearance, at UFC 315, in August, when it was surpassed by Jack Della Maddalena by unanimous decision. Although he tried to impose his rhythm, Belal struggled against the Australian's sharp striking and takedown defense.

Before the defeat, Belal was in great form: he had accumulated 11 fights without losing, including triumphs over Vincent Luque, Gilbert Durinho e Sean brady. The former champion had won the belt by beating Leon edwards via unanimous decision at UFC 304.
