Current UFC middleweight champion, Chris Weidman plans very high flights for his career. The North American stated that he does not intend to retire from the sport without first facing Jon Jones, former light heavyweight champion and considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Jones, whose record is 21 wins and one loss, was the dominant champion of the 93-pound division. However, he was stripped of his title after being involved in a controversial traffic accident in April. Even so, if he does return to fights, the athlete is in the sights of Weidman, owner of the belt in the lower category (up to 84 kg) and undefeated in professional MMA.

“I know for sure that I will not retire from this sport without having fought Jon. Unless he doesn't fight again. But if he comes back and I'm around, people will want to see this fight. And I want that to happen,” said Weidman, in an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast.

Despite insistently challenging Jones, Weidman clarifies that he does not have any type of personal problem with his compatriot. “I have nothing against Jon. It's because I'm a competitor, I want to fight the best people. I want to have the biggest challenges and overcome them. That's why I wanted to face Anderson Silva when no one else wanted it. I want the biggest challenges. I want to beat the fighters that people think I can't. And Jon is definitely one of those guys,” he explained.

Before thinking about Jones, Weidman, however, already has another challenge. He will face Luke Rockhold at UFC 194, on December 12, in Las Vegas (USA). Jones, who still has legal issues due to the accident, still has no plans to return to the Ultimate Octagon.
