This Thursday (13), after months of living with a series of injuries, the Brazilian bantamweight Raphael Assunção underwent ankle surgery in the United States. The result of the operation, which consisted of inserting a metal rod into the injured area, was recorded and ended up circulating on the internet.
The images of the surgery were published by the North American website “MMA Fighting”. Without fighting since October last year, Raphael, who is currently third in the official bantamweight rankings, is expected to remain away from the octagon until the end of the year.
At 33, Raphael Assunção has a professional record of 23 wins and four losses. The Brazilian is only one of two athletes in history to have a victory over the current bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw on his resume and is considered by many to be one of the favorites to become a challenger for the division title.
