One of the great soap operas of recent UFC times will finally come to an end this Saturday (25). Renan Barao will finally do in front of TJ Dillashaw the rematch for the bantamweight belt of the biggest MMA organization on the planet, in the main fight of UFC on FOX 16, in Chicago, in the United States.
The rematch between the two was postponed twice in about a year. In the first of them, in August last year, Barão fell ill during the weight cut and was removed from the main fight of UFC 177. In April this year, it was the North American's turn to get injured, causing the fight to be postponed. moved to July.
Now, Barão and Dillashaw will finally be able to resolve their differences in the Octagon. The two faced each other for the first time in May last year, at UFC 173, in what is still considered one of the biggest surprises in the history of MMA.
Barão was champion of the category and had an unbeaten run of almost 10 years, having beaten names like Urijah faber (twice), Michael McDonald and Eddie Wineland. Dillashaw, in turn, was not even considered number one in line for the belt, as he Raphael Assunção, who had defeated him a few months before, was unable to fight for the title due to injury.
Even so, Dillashaw surprised the world by completely dominating Barão, presenting agile and forceful striking. The final straw came in the fifth round, when he settled the bill and won the belt with a technical knockout.
In the rematch, both Barão and Dillashaw will try to prove their case in the octagon. The Brazilian hopes to show that the outcome of the UFC 173 fight was the result of an uninspired night; the North American, on the other hand, wants to prove his value once and for all and highlight his superiority even more.
One of Dillashaw's greatest assets from last year was retained for UFC on FOX 16. The fighter continues to hone his striking with Duane Ludwig, responsible for honing his Muay Thai, a fundamental weapon in winning the title.
And that is precisely what Barão will have to deal with on Saturday. The former champion will need to show a response to Dillashaw's agile game, or even be able to take the fight to the ground and apply his jiu-jitsu.
Furthermore, there is another important aspect at play. If he wins, Barão will become the fourth simultaneous Brazilian UFC champion, joining Fabricio Werdum, Rafael dos Anjos e José Aldo. Therefore, it is worth keeping your eyes open for the fight.
Event has important fights for Edson and Tate
The rest of the card will feature some more interesting fights. Another Brazilian athlete at the event, Edson Barboza will try to recover from the defeat suffered by Michael Johnson in February against the undefeated Paul felder. Both athletes have sharp footwork, which is the recipe for an electrifying fight in Chicago.
In the second most important fight of the attraction, Miesha Tate e Jessica Eye they have a duel of muses with an eye on a new title fight. Tate comes from three consecutive victories, over Liz Carmouche, Rin Nakai and Sara McMann, and a new victory would put her close to another rematch against Ronda Rousey. Eye could give the division a new look with a victory over the established Tate, who has two defeats to the champion on her resume.
