Former Poirier victim expresses concern about athlete in trilogy against Holloway: 'I don't like it'

Former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) and former victim of Dustin poirier, Eddie Alvarez continues to keep an eye on his tormentor's career even after leaving the UFC in 2018. “It's very difficult to lose to someone three times in a row. Max is a champion in his own right. I just want to see a good fight. Both times they fought, they were great fights. I particularly don't like it when a guy says, 'I'm done, I'm retiring,' and then goes on and keeps fighting. I don't like that. I've never seen anyone get away with that, when they say they're retiring, go out there and put on an unforgettable performance, and then walk off into the sunset. You rarely see that,” Alvarez said in an interview with The Schmo.

Without letting ego get in the way, Alvarez pointed out the fighter's greatest qualities, which could make a difference again in a fight with Holloway.

"Honestly, what Dustin does best is burst. Dustin is calculated. He doesn't get hit by hard shots very, very, very often. And he's really good at doing sprints where he picks his shots and goes on a 15-second burst where it's just barrage, barrage, barrage," he concluded.

UFC 318 star Poirier will perform in his hometown of Louisiana, USA. According to Dana White, the event was held to honor the fighter's career. Scheduled for this Saturday (19), the fight will feature a fight for the BMF belt, which currently belongs to Holloway.
