A name immortalized in the UFC Hall of Fame and one of the greatest icons in the history of MMA, Randy Couture suffered a serious accident last Tuesday (08) during training sessions on a race track in the Kansas City region in the United States. The former champion, 62 years old, had to be transported by helicopter to a specialized burn center, where he remains hospitalized. The information was released by 'TMZ Sports'.

Couture suffered first and second degree burns, as well as trauma and smoke inhalation. Despite the severity of the incident, people close to the fighter confirmed, in conversation with 'MMA Junkie', that they expect a full recovery for 'The Natural', as he is known.

The incident happened as the veteran was preparing for his highly anticipated debut in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), the premier drag racing league (drag racing) of the United States world, scheduled for the end of 2025.

Randy Couture’s foray into the world of speed was no secret. The MMA legend, who dominated the light heavyweight (93 lbs.) and heavyweight (120,2 lbs.) divisions, was determined to test his limits in a new arena.

He had been training hard for his debut in the Pro Mod division, which features cars that are modified to be extremely fast but still have characteristics reminiscent of street cars.

In fact, Couture had postponed his first official race, initially scheduled for June, claiming the need for more 'track time' to guarantee his safety and that of his competitors.

The former fighter also remains active in the mixed martial arts scene as a commentator for the PFL and has a consolidated career as an actor, with notable appearances in the 'The Expendables' franchise.
