Renowned MMA coach Ronny Markes wins gold medal in jiu-jitsu tournament

The Nélio Dias Gymnasium in Natal was the stage for major jiu-jitsu competitions last weekend during the AJP Tour North East Brazil Regional 2025, one of the main events of the sport in the country. The event brought together more than 800 competitors, including colored and black belts, both male and female, as well as juvenile and master categories.

One of the big winners of the competition was the renowned MMA and Jiu-Jitsu coach and athlete, Ronny Markes. A veteran, the native of Rio Grande do Norte has trained names like Bruno Capelozza, Magomed Ankalaev , Alexander Volkov , and Francis Ngannou , and has also represented organizations such as UFC, Bellator, and PFL. Known for his aggressive style during fights, the black belt climbed to the podium in first place after winning three fights, all by submission.

Promoted by Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP), the championship earned significant points for the organization's world rankings and attracted athletes from various regions of Brazil, solidifying the sport's growth in the Northeast. In addition to traditional gi (gi) matches, the event also featured No-GI matches, where athletes compete without wearing a gi.

Ronny currently lives in Las Vegas and manages the Porrada Training Center gym alongside Marcelo Marques. The gym hosts Ankalaev when the light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) travels to the city to sharpen his arsenal. Volkov and other stars of the sport attend the training sessions daily.

Riding high on three consecutive MMA victories, all of them by the fast track, the Brazilian is preparing for another fight in the sport, hoping to reach 26 victories in his professional career.
