Unseen video shows Charles do Bronx crying before defeat at UFC 317

Charles of the Bronx held a collective prayer with family members and the Chute Boxe team moments before the UFC 317, in Las Vegas. The Brazilian, visibly emotional, declared that he would return to the local accommodation with the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg), a goal not achieved after losing to Ilia Topuria by knockout. The record was published on the academy's official YouTube channel.

In a video released by Chute Boxe, the former UFC champion appears alongside his wife, Vitória, his son, Dominick, and team members, including coach Diego Lima. The footage shows the group in a circle in the locker room of the house where he was staying. Charles cried during the prayer circle.

The Brazilian suffered his third defeat in his last five fights, and at 35 years of age, he may have had his last opportunity to fight for the belt in the sport's most populous category.

With the victory, the Georgian became the tenth fighter to win titles in two different weight classes, and the first to achieve the feat while undefeated.

Overcome by Topuria in the main fight, Charles of the Bronx would have closed the 'podium' of payments in UFC 317, with an estimated purse of $1,32 million (around R$7,2 million). The figures below were published by the website 'Give Me Sport' and represent estimates of total payout.

The highest paid fighters were Ilia Topuria e Alexandre pantoja, who between bonuses and scholarships, would have received US$ 3,5 million (around R$ 19,3 million) and US$ 1,7 million (around R$ 9,4 million), respectively.
