New UFC lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), Ilia Topuria doesn't waste time. In an interview with 'ABC Spain', the Georgian responded furiously to criticism from the main contender for his belt, Arman Tsarukyan, and assured that, if they face each other in the octagon, the Armenian will be finished.
“I would finish Tsarukyan. Did you see his fight with Charles? How many times did he almost get finished? I guarantee you that I would finish Tsarukyan,” said the Georgian.

The provocation came days after the Armenian classified Topuria as 'an easier rival than Do Bronx'. In an interview with the Daniel Cormier, Tsarukyan pointed out flaws in the champion's grappling.
"Bryce mitchell, the worst fighter in the category, took Topuria down and held him on the ground. He is not of a high level,” Topuria had said.
Ilia Topuria's UFC Future
At 28 years old, Topuria won his second UFC belt at the same age that Conor became a two-time champion in the organization. Known for his knockout power and ability to finish on the ground, the Spaniard has nine victories in the UFC, seven of which were won quickly. In his last three appearances, 'El Matador' has knocked out all of his rivals.
As they trade barbs, the decision on the next challenger remains in suspense. President Dana White avoided any commitments after the UFC 317, even with the stare between Topuria and Paddy Pimblett. Justin gaethje also figures in the dispute, including a threat of retirement if he doesn't get the chance.
