Former lightweight champion rules out retirement and sets preferred dates to face Jack Della Maddalena

Contrary to what coach Javier Mendez said in a recent statement, Stating that Islam makhachev reportedly plans to fight around three more fights before hanging up his gloves, the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) appears to be in no rush to put an end to his career.

In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', Islam makhachev commented on the deadline set by his long-time coach, stated that everyone has the right to their opinion, but assured that the move up to welterweight (up to 77,1 kg) marks the beginning of a new story with no end in sight.

“Javier (Mendez) has his opinion, Ali (Abdelaziz) has his opinion and I have my opinion. We are just getting started. This is a new book and it is just getting started,” assured the former lightweight champion.

Makhachev points out likely dates to face Della Maddalena for the belt

After just under three years reigning supreme in the lightweight division, Islam makhachev relinquished his belt in the category and announced his move up to welterweight (up to 77,1 kg). Although the fight has not yet been made official by the UFC, the tendency is that the Russian will face the newly crowned champion Jack Della Maddalena for the category belt.
