Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jamahal hill has had difficulty returning to winning ways since the tough defeat suffered by Alex Poatán. Despite currently being ranked sixth in the division, the American is going through a difficult phase, where he has accumulated three consecutive defeats. His last victory was over Glover Teixeira, in January of 2023.
Dominated by Khalil rountree in his last performance, when he starred in the UFC Baku, Hill was the target of harsh criticism due to his poor performance against the former title challenger. In a video published on his YouTube channel, YouTube, the fighter stated that he is not at his usual level and acknowledged indiscipline when talking about weight in preparation for fights.

“I haven’t been at my level for a long time. I think people underestimate the injuries I have to deal with, which in many cases are career-ending. And then you add the knee injuries, nerves, and me trying to come back (…) my work and performance need to improve, I need to train more. In my last three fight preparations, the lightest I’ve been was 117kg, the last camp I started at 120kg,” he admitted.
Despite highlighting the critical condition of his physical form, the athlete recognized the need for improvement and urgent change in order to remain among the sport's elite.
“I can’t spend my time preparing to make weight, so after apologizing to the people who support me, I need to be better. I need to be better there, in how I take care of my body, how I work to improve and stay in shape with my body and abilities. For now, I’m going to take the time I need to make sure I can recover from my injuries, to focus on my injuries, to give them the time they need to get back to their strength and feel normal again. I need to change,” he concluded.
At 34 years old, Jamahal has been knocked out in two of his last three losses in the organization. His expectation was to get a rematch with Poatan if he could get close to the belt again.
