The atmosphere was Brazilian party, but the Cuban Yoel romero gave the Tupiniquim fans a cold shower and knocked them out Lyoto Machida in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 70, an event held this Saturday night (28), in Florida. After the country's athletes scored five victories in five appearances on the show, Machida fought a tactical fight in search of rehabilitation in the octagon, but ended up being surprised and knocked out in the third round.

The fight

The fight between Lyoto Machida, fourth in the middleweight rankings, and Yoel romero, sixth in the classification, started with a lot of study. The Brazilian controlled the distance and worked with kicks from the waist line, without much effectiveness. In turn, the Cuban had great difficulty finding his rival in the Octagon and seemed, at times, lost.

From the second round onwards, however, the Cuban began to find the distance. Machida already had difficulty moving and hitting without being hit. Romero worked with speed with short punches and despite not being forceful, he scored points.

In the final moments of round two, Yoel had a plastic moment. He walked over the bars of the cage, just like Anthony Pettis he had done in the now-defunct WEC, and tried a flying punch. Although the blow didn't land, he closed the distance to reach the Brazilian. He then attempted a takedown, but the bell sounded.

In the third round, however, the Cuban won. In the first minute of the partial, Romero closed the distance with a punch and got the takedown. With impressive speed, he threw several elbows at Lyoto who was unable to defend himself. With the Brazilian shaken, the referee declared a technical knockout at 1m37s of the round.

After the big victory, the Cuban showed respect to the Dragon: “”I have a lot of respect for Lyoto. I wanted to do this fight with him because I know he is a legend, he is very tough”, he said

'Argentine Gente Boa' suffers brutal knockout

the argentine Santiago Ponzinibbio and the American Lorenz Larkin provided an intense battle in Florida. The fighters had an open fight, with a frank exchange of blows and excited the crowd present at the Hard Rock Casino.

Larkin started the fight better with his striking, always connecting in the first rounds, but Santiago responded to each attack. The Argentine even tried to take the fight to the ground on two occasions, but without success.

In the second round, Ponzinibbio was recovering in the fight. He put Lorenz against the bars on several occasions and landed good punches on his rival. However, a combination of a left cross and a straight right took the Argentine to the ground. Without wasting time, he landed several more punches on top until referee Herb Dean ended the fight via technical knockout.
