After almost two years, a member of the legendary Gracie family will once again be part of a UFC event – but not necessarily inside the Octagon. Roger gracie, who once fought in the biggest MMA organization on the planet, will do a jiu-jitsu fight during the 2015 edition of UFC Fan Expo, an event fair for fans that takes place the week before the fight between José Aldo e Conor McGregor at UFC 189, scheduled for July 11th.
Roger will face compatriot Rodrigo “Comprido” in a ten-minute fight valid for the “American National Jiu-Jitsu Championships”. The information about the duel was revealed by the athlete himself, in an interview with the website “Dojjo”.
This will be the first time for the grandson of Carlos Gracie, who was 10 times world champion in the gentle art and twice ADCC champion (Abu Dhabi Combat Club, the biggest submission competition on the planet), since 2012, when he tied with Marcus “Bochecha” in the first edition of “Metamoris”. Since then, Carlos Gracie's grandson has dedicated himself to MMA.
At 33, Roger gracie has a professional record of seven wins and two losses. In his last fight, in May this year, Roger beat James McSweeney by technical knockout in his debut at the ONE FC Asian event. The expectation is that he will return to cage organization in September.
