The newly created Global Fight League – GFL – has become an unknown quantity after the cancellation of the debut, scheduled for May 24 and 25, in Los Angeles. One of the fighters hired by the new company spoke out and questioned the promotion in a way that many of his colleagues would certainly like to do.

Alan belcher is a former BKFC heavyweight champion and was scheduled to face Stuart Austin in one of his debut fights in Los Angeles. He learned of the cancellation along with the public. The 40-year-old athlete vented on his social media.

“The GFL is canceled, guys. First of all, I feel really bad for all of you who got tickets. There were a lot of people supporting me — I don’t think they ever sold tickets — but some people had already changed their plans and got tickets to LA to see me fight. (…) It seems like this was all a big scam. There was never any proof of the money that was supposed to be paid to the athletes. We all got screwed over in this one,” Belcher said in a video posted on his Instagram account.

The veteran's statement comes after the president of the GFL made a public speech of good intentions. Darren Owen stated that the event is not canceled but postponed. However, one detail in his post caught people's attention: the invitation to the voluntary release of athletes.

PUBLICITY:

“I am working to secure funding and make a successful launch. While I believe this delay will be brief, any athlete can request immediate release. We fight together,” wrote Darren Owen on his 'X' (formerly Twitter) account.
