Seventh place in the welterweight category, Ian Gary has plenty of reason to be pleased with his Ultimate journey so far. However, that doesn't seem to be the case for the Irishman just yet. At just 27 years old and on a collision course with Carlos Prates No. UFC Kansas City next Saturday (19), the welterweight can't stop thinking about the defeat to Shavkat Rakhmonov.

In an interview with The Ariel Helwani Show this Monday (14), Futuro revealed that he has a daily reminder of the defeat to the Kazakh in his home, which serves as a way to motivate him.
“I framed a picture of myself on Shavkat’s back in my bedroom. So every day I get out of bed and look at that and it burns my soul. (I did it) to make sure that I evolve every day, get better and become the best version of myself. To show everyone that I am the best in the world.”
️Machado Garry shared that he keeps a framed picture in his bedroom of himself nearly choking out Shavkat Rakhmonov:
“Everyday I wake up and I see this thing and it burns myself.”

The defeat to Rakhmonov was the Irishman's last performance, the first and only of his career. Despite the setback, the athlete's performance was widely praised, mainly due to the skill shown in defending himself from his opponent's takedown attempts, in addition to having come very close to finishing him in the last round.

Away from the octagon since the fight with Rakhmonov, Garry will have the chance to return to the winning column next Saturday (19). The Irishman measures forces with Carlos Prates, one of the stars of Fighting Nerds. The Brazilian is undefeated in the Ultimate and has earned performance bonuses in all of his appearances. The winner of the duel will establish himself as one of the top welterweights in the world (up to 77,1 kg).
