Clearly hurt from all the blows he received from Diego lopes in the main fight of UFC 314, Alexander Volkanovsky admitted that he did not expect this outcome. In a statement made at the press conference after the fight, the new featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg) said that if the injuries interfere with his plans, the ideal would be to defend his title soon.

“I mean, if everything is okay, I would probably like to go sooner. Faster than that, to be honest. This is probably the second fight. So maybe it could be, if I’m okay, maybe I can get the fight, maybe in July or September. Yeah, maybe we can fit it in. Movsar (Evloev), if they want to do it, if they want to go quick and I feel good, maybe a quick return with Movsar if I don’t have broken hands. We’ll see. Like I said, that was my plan. Bang, bang, bang. But I didn’t expect to get hit so hard. Credit to fucking Diego,” Volkanovski said.

As he continued speaking, the fighter highlighted the need for tests to check that everything is okay with his health so that he can move forward with the plan he has drawn up.

“I have to get a few things looked at. I’m going to get an X-ray and have a look at it right away. If everything is okay, the cuts will heal quickly. Give me a few weeks and I’ll be back to work. I’ll still be doing stuff even when I get home. Like I said, I’m a professional, I’m disciplined. I’ll keep working. I’ll talk to the UFC and we’ll see what happens,” he concluded.
