“I completely lost the vision in my left eye. It was a good blow, and I couldn’t see. I was trying to recover, but my vision just disappeared. Little by little it slowly came back, and I started to see some blurs, which helped me a lot. Because I couldn’t see anything and I thought: ‘S***, this is not good’. But then I started to see some blurs, and it got a little better and I could understand the distance and things like that a little bit more”, said Volkanovski.
Volkanovski's experience and skill were essential to overcoming adversity and returning to the top of the world. The Australian managed to control the pace of the fight and land the best strikes to win by unanimous decision. The fight was voted 'Fight of the Night' at the event, earning both fighters a $50 bonus.
