On Wednesday afternoon (9), more than 50 fighters under contract with the GFL were taken by surprise after the executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, Andy Foster, announced the cancellation of the event. Victim of the failure, Gleison Tibau, ex-UFC, who had a fight scheduled against Alex 'Cowboy' Oliveira, for May 24, opened up and expressed disappointment with the episode.
In an exclusive interview to SUPER FIGHTS, the UFC veteran stated that he had already completed all the tests required by the Athletic Commission and revealed that he had no information about the GFL's next steps. Darren Owen, founder of the organization, revealed to Ariel Helwani the need to postpone the event, due to one of the partners not fulfilling their promises.

“It took everyone by surprise, everyone is in shock, we don’t know what’s going to happen, really. It’s crazy. We’re still in shock, not knowing what to do or what’s going to happen or what they’re going to do. The contract is signed, everything is in order. We did the physical exams, all the tests that the Commission requested. I personally did everything already. Everything is in order and news like this is shocking, but now I’m speechless, I’m going to talk to my manager who arranged this fight because until now I don’t even know what to do”, declared Tibau.
