The division title has been vacant since Ilia Topuria moved up a category to compete in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg). Alexander Volkanovsky, 36, comes into the fight under pressure due to two consecutive knockout defeats — including losing the belt to the Spaniard in February 2024.

On the other side, Diego lopes, third in the division rankings, has won five straight games — the most recent over Brian ortega No. UFC 306. The two contenders for the belt have already met on Miami soil. The face-off was friendly, with a handshake and a train as a backdrop. (see below)
