Volkanovski opens up about questions after knockouts and promises to 'change opinions' at UFC 314

Considered by many to be one of the greatest featherweights (up to 65,7 kg) in the history of MMA, Alexander Volkanovsky has the opportunity, this Saturday (12), to begin his second reign in the category if he wins Diego lopes in the main fight of UFC 314, with the vacant belt in the category at stake. To do so, the Australian will have to overcome a series of defeats that has made fans question his current ability.

In an interview with 'First Take', this Tuesday (8), Volkanovski spoke out about the questions he has been facing after the consecutive knockouts suffered against Islam makhachev and most recently Ilia Topuria.

“I think a lot of people are going to look at these losses and call it a bad streak. It was a last-minute fight that I got against Makhachev. I wanted a high-risk, high-reward fight. I was ready and I thought I could do it. It didn’t work out that way. I came back really quickly and got caught again by Topuria. A lot of people are going to look at this and say I’m done, and they have every right to do that. But for me, the guy that’s showing up in the gym, seeing what I’m seeing in the preparation, I know I’m not done,” he said.

Lastly, Alexander Volkanovsky promised to change fans' opinions with a resounding victory over Diego lopes No. UFC 314.

“There’s only one way to change everyone’s minds, and that’s to go out there this weekend and remind everyone. That’s exactly what I plan to do. (…) People forget, and that’s why I love this game, right? People can be reminded quickly and that’s what’s going to happen this weekend,” he concluded.
