Even without official confirmation from the Ultimate, the unification duel for the heavyweight belts (up to 120,2 kg) between Jon Jones e Tom aspinall has been surrounded by a lot of expectation not only from fans, but also from fighters, including one of the main highlights of the UFC 314, this Saturday (12).
In a recent appearance on the 'Full Send' podcast, Paddy Pimblett, scheduled for the co-main event against Michael chandler, surprised by naming the favorite for the eventual heavyweight duel. The British lightweight sensation (up to 70,3 kg) declared his support for his friend and compatriot Tom aspinall, but said he couldn't bet against Jon Jones.
“I’ll be honest, Tom is a friend, I love Tom, he’s one of the nicest guys in MMA, but even though Jones is ending his career, I can’t bet against him. I watch Jon Jones since 2010, I remember watching him get disqualified against Matt Hamill live. He has great longevity and one of the best fight IQs in the world. He strategizes how to beat people and never fights the same way in every fight. As much as I love Tom and want him to win, I can't bet against him. Jon Jones. I just can't do it,” said Paddy 'The Baddy'.
The duel between Aspinall and Jones does not yet have a date. The expectation was that the two would face each other at UFC 317, during International Fight Week, in June, but the current trend is that the fight will be confirmed for the end of the year, probably on the New York card, traditionally held in November.
