In preparation to face Ian Machado Garry No. UFC Kansas City on April 26, Carlos Prates adopted a sincere stance when recalling the opinion he had when watching the Irishman in the octagon for the first time. Still outside of the Ultimate at the time, the Brazilian revealed that he was impressed by his rival's skills and recognized that the athlete would eventually become champion.
"When Ian Gary signed with the UFC I thought he was really good. I was talking to my coach or friend, I don't remember who, a few days ago and it's crazy how life is. When I was talking about the Ian Gary "For the first time, in the first fight in the UFC, I said he was very good and would probably be champion and stuff. Now I came his way and I changed my opinion a little, but it's crazy to see that two years ago I was talking about him and now I'm going to face him," Prates declared to Ariel Helwani.

Scheduled for the main fight of the event, Prates said he had no problem in fighting his opponent for five rounds.
“Yes, I’m calm because every sparring session, even if it’s for a three-round fight, I was training to do five. I train a lot. Whenever I have a fight, I train for five rounds, six rounds, so it’s calm,” he concluded.

Protagonists of UFC Kansas City, Prates and Garry face each other with an eye on the upcoming dispute for the welterweight title (up to 77,1 kg). Considered great promises in the category, the fighters agreed at the last minute to replace Jamahal hill e Khalil rountree. The event takes place on April 26th.
