Curtis blaydes publicly criticized the possible migration of Alex Poatán for the UFC heavyweights (up to 120,2 kg). In an interview with Home of Fight, the American highlighted his dominance in wrestling as a decisive advantage and suggested that the Brazilian's power, although relevant, would be insufficient against the main names in the division.
Blaydes was also emphatic in describing how he would neutralize Poatan. According to him, if the former light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) faced fighters with strong grappling skills — including him — his firepower could be shaken, which would make him an easy target.

“There are guys he can beat. But I don’t think you put him against a Derrick Lewis or Almeida (Jailton Malhadinho) or me, for example. I'm 100% sure I would take him down and I could just hold him. He got away with it at light heavyweight, but I can't say the same at heavyweight,” said the fighter.
After the defeat to Magomed Ankalayev No. UFC 313, Poatan made clear his desire for a rematch, indicating a temporary focus on light heavyweight. However, the idea of moving up to heavyweight remains as plan B. In an interview with The Ariel Helwani, the Brazilian admitted that the transition would depend on a “natural body sensation”, without forcing changes.
