In an interview with 'Fox Sports Australia', Della Maddalena stated that Muhammad has a fighting style tedious and compared him to St-Pierre, who has also been heavily criticized in the past. “There’s no doubt he has a boring fighting style. He’s good at keeping people on the ground and getting wins. Georges St-Pierre has been criticized in the past for having a boring style. I definitely think it’s a boring style, but winning is obviously his number one goal, and that’s fair. But I feel like I can beat him,” Della Maddalena said.
Signed through the Contender Series, Della Maddalena had a seven-fight winning streak in the UFC. However, he only received the opportunity to fight for the belt due to an injury to the original challenger, Shavkat Rakhmonov.
