After the developments of the UFC 313, Charles of the Bronx spared no praise for Alex Poatán, even after the Brazilian's defeat to Magomed Ankalayev in the fight for the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg). In an interview with Chael Sonnen, the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) defended his compatriot's performance and anticipated a compelling scenario for the likely rematch.
“Alex did very well. He defended all the takedowns and even took his opponent down once. The only significant strike Ankalaev landed was when Alex was retreating. Other than that, he just pinned him against the fence. In the rematch, which will happen soon, Alex will knock him out in the second round,” said Charles.

Ankalaev, now the champion of the category, adopted a cautious strategy: he controlled the distance, avoided Poatan's characteristic counterattacks and explored the clinch next to the fence to neutralize the power of his opponent's exchange.
Despite not being able to take the fight to the ground, the Russian left with his arms raised in the unanimous decision of the judges and became champion of Dana White's company for the first time in his career.
The rematch, scheduled for August 2025, is already dividing opinions. While Ankalaev confirmed the date on his social media, Alex is still waiting for the contract.
