Mariusz Ksiazkiewicz turned a routine moment into a scene of physical and mental resistance that almost culminated in his death. Last Wednesday (26), the former UFC 'Contender Series' fighter was surprised by a hooded assailant while taking out the trash from his home in Winnipeg, Canada. Despite being stabbed in the chest, the Canadian fought back with precision, knocked out the man and ensured his own medical assistance — all in a matter of minutes.

Ksiazkiewicz had just put his daughters to bed when he left through the back door towards the garbage collection point, located across the street. On the way, a masked individual approached him and stabbed him in the chest. Without immediately understanding the severity of the blow, the athlete responded with a “one-two” — a classic boxing combination — which knocked the attacker to the ground. Only after neutralizing him did the fighter realize the wound.

“It was like bumping into someone in the supermarket, but with pain. I just threw a few punches. My chest was burning. I touched the area and my hands were soaked in blood,” he told the Uncrowned website.

The knife pierced his chest muscle and passed just millimeters from his heart and lungs, according to medical tests. Despite the risk to his life, the fighter remained calm: he returned home, locked the door, asked a neighbor to look after his daughters and drove himself to the hospital, pressing the wound with a towel.

At the hospital reception, his coldness was surprising. After an evaluation, the doctors found that no vital organs had been affected. He was discharged hours later.

“Listen, I’ve been stabbed in the chest. I need help immediately,” he told hospital staff.
