Even with only three fights in the UFC and still far from a place in the flyweight rankings (up to 56,7 kg), Ronaldo Rodríguez is one of the most popular fighters in his country. With more than 2 million followers on social media, the Mexican had a very complicated last weekend, before and after the UFC Mexico, from which he went straight to the hospital.
On Friday (28), Rodriguez was the only one of the 26 athletes selected for the UFC Mexico not making weight for the event and had to give up 20% of his purse to his opponent, the Peruvian Kevin Borjas. On Saturday (29), the Mexican was surprised and, despite being the favorite, ended up being defeated by his rival in a unanimous decision by the judges. After the setback, the fighter still had to be hospitalized due to problems resulting from the weight cut.

“Thank you very much to the Red Cross for the excellent service, I really appreciate it. I had some complications from losing weight, but we are fine. My wife Nina Medina is taking care of me,” the Mexican wrote in the caption of a photo in which he appears in a hospital bed.
At 25, Ronaldo Rodríguez arrived at the Ultimate in 2024 and debuted by submitting Denys Bondar in UFC Mexico that year. The Mexican followed up with a triumph over Ode Osbourne, in September, before stopping in Kevin Borjas last Saturday.
