The chance to Carlos Prates entering the UFC's top 10 welterweights (up to 77kg) may have been delayed, but he remains open to new possibilities. The Fighting Nerds representative had the fight against Geoff neal canceled, due to an injury to the American. However, he did not hide his desire to face another big name in the ranking of his division.

In an interview with 'Chama MMA Fight Club', given before the announcement of Neal's injury, Prates stated that he would like to face Colby covington because he doesn't like the American's stance, especially his controversial statements about Brazil. Although, from a professional point of view, he doesn't see this fight as the best option for his career.

“Oh, I would like to, right? On a personal level, there… He talks badly about our country… You look at the interviews, the things he says, how he acts… It makes me want to hit him. But on a professional level, I don’t think it would be that good. I think there are other fights that the UFC would be willing to give me and that would add much more to my career than he would,” said Prates.

Signed through the Contender Series, Carlos Prates debuted in the UFC in February 2024 and, in his first year in the organization, he achieved four knockout victories, securing his place in the top 15 of the category by overcoming Neil Magny in his last fight. The Brazilian would have the opportunity to consolidate his position against Geoff neal, but the American suffered an injury and had to leave the fight. So far, no official information has been released about the Fighting Nerds representative's next opponent.
